The secretary of the Cricketers’ Aasooia tion received a communication from the Canterbury Association last week, mentioning that the latter thought it desirable to take steps to secure a visit of cricketers from Victoria or New South Vi ales, and requesting thp co-operation of the Otago Association towards this end. In reply this was promised, and mention was made of the fact that the latter had already written to some of the leading cricketers in Victoria to ascertain if there was any likelihood cf a Bohemian team of amateurs being induced to visit us during the season. The Phpenix Club opened their season on Saturday with a soratch match between sides ohosen by Messrs J. P, Malcolm and W. J, Moore, Scores; Malcolm’s, 44; Moore’s, 81 (Andrews 27, Morrison 20). Warehousemen played Captain v. Deputycaptain. The former’s side totalled 158, V\ illiams playing a fine innings of 85. The deputy-captain’s side made 52 for six wickets (Fielden 29, not out). Port Chalmers played Old England against The World, the latter putting eighteen into the field. The scores were: 122 (Ferrier 45, not out) and 78 respectively. Albions played Captain v. Deputy-cap-tain. Captain’s CO (M‘Master 12, Collar 11), Deputy-captain’s 97 (W. M‘Farlane4o, J. M'Farlane 25, not out).
