SERIOUS CHARGE AGAINST A CONSTABLE.
A charge of a most serious nature against a member of the Dunedin police force is at present being investigated by Inspector Weldon, The complaint of Mrs Mary Ryder is that Constable Walker! recently visited her house at North-east Valley, and, alleging that she was harboring a young girl, proceeded, without a search warrant, to make a minute search of her bedroom. It is further charged that he then attempted to take improper liberties with her. The inquiry (which, being of a departmental nature, ia being conducted with closed doors) began this morning at the North Dunedin police station, and will be resumed this evening. Mr Solomon appears for Mrs Ryder, and Mr Macdonald for the constable.
