The visit of the Emperor of Germany to J the Sultan of Turkey has been the subject of j some comment in the Russian Press. It is believed in St. Petersburg that he attempted, without success, to induce Turkey to join the Triple Alliance. A German protectorate has been proclaimed over the territory lying between Vichn and Kismajo, in East Africa. The Archduke John has petitioned the Emperor of Austria for permission to resign his rank and title, and retire into private life. The present stock of pig iron is 75,000 tons below that usually held. New Zealand mutton is selling at ty& per lb. Quotations for beef remain unchanged. A man entered the Union Bank at Didsbury, and after shooting the manager stole LBO. On being followed he fired at his pursuers, but seeing no chance of escape committed suicide.
