FLOATED OFF. BRISBANE, October 15, (Received October 15, 1889, at 1 p.m.)

The Bteainer Taroba, which struck on a rock last week north of Mackay, has been floated off.


Two hundred and fifty Natives attacked Sir W. Macgregor, Administrator of British New Guinea, who, accompanied by a party, was searching for some murderers. The assailants were beaten off with the loss of four killed and eleven wounded. There were no casualties on Sir W. Macgregot's side.


The Legislative Council have rejected the proposal to increase the representation on the Federal Council. This will probably nullify the resolutions passed by other colonies favoring an increase.
