ANNEXATION OF MANSFORD TOWN

TO THE EDITOR.

Sib,—l notice that a petition to annex Manaford Town to Port Chalmers has been sent to the Governor, and unless the Port ratepayers send another petition objecting to the Mansford Town one we shall have to take them in whether we like it or not. I hope the Borough Council will take prompt steps to prevent the town from being saddled with the additional burthen of having to provide for the numerous requirements of a primitive township, the rates from which would not amount to onethird of tbe cost of maintaining it. Besides, it would be unfair to many like myself having houses to let here to encourage people to go to Mansford Town to reside, and so relieve themselves of the water and special rates. Some time ng<> the Council decided to remove the ccr.nts from the Town Belt on account of the unfairness it would be to property-holders. 1 l.opo they will in the present time guard Hip tights of the ratepayers in the same way f■• ro, etc., H.VIiVAYEK.
