The adjourned meeting of shareholders of the Freemasons’ Hall Company will be held this evening.
A concert in aid of tho Roslyn Institute library fund will bo held at Roslyn on Friday evening next, The attention of officers and members of the District Grand Lodges, S.O. and E.C., and of tho members of Lodge St, Andrew, 5.0., is directed to announcements in our advertising columns. A select committee of the House of Commons on the 6th ult. passed tho preamble of the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation Bill, which authorises tho construction of the scheme known generally as the Bhoffiold Ship Canal. By this Bill a company is incorporated with powers to purchase, widen, and improve certain existing canals between Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, and the sea. The capital of tho company is fixed at L 1,500,000, with borrowing powers not exceeding L 375,000, whilst the time granted for tho completion of the works, including a dock at (Sheffield, is seven years. Power is also given to tho company to pay interest out of capital during the construction of the works. The scheme has now been sanctioned by both Houses.
The Alhambra Football C ub held their fifth annual ball on Friday evening in the North Dunedin Hall, over seventy couples attending. Mr Bruton’s band supplied the music, and gave every satisfaction; Messrs Moyers and Son catered. During the evening Mr MacLaugblin (captain of tho Club) presented Mr Stone with an enlarged photo splendidly mounted and framed, with tho following engraved on it: “ Presented to Mr Stone as a mark of esteem by tho Alhambra Football Club.” Mr Stone returned thanks in a very happy speech. Tho Committee are to be complimented on tho beautiful decorations and general arrangements, Songs and recitations were rendered during the evening by Messrs Restioaux, Koss, M’Laugbliu, M'Oormack, and M’Cartby.
