WELLINGTON, October 7.
The Marine Department has received a telegram from the officer i» charge of the Customs at Mongonui, to the effect that a man who had just arrived there reports finding a quantity of wreckage in Spirits Bay, apparently belonging to a ship of largo dimensions, Among this is a board painted white, on which are the words “County of Carnarvon,” in gold letters. [ln a cablegram dated Valparaiso, 18th September, it was stated that the County of Carnarvon, which left Newcastle for Valparaiso on June 1, was missing, and that a premium of sixty guineas had been paid for reinsurance.]
