WELLINGTON, October 7.
The Mana returned from the wreck of the Koranui and reports finding her funnel smashed, but no other apparent change in the steamer, which is lying on a sandy bed. The weather was rough, and the divers had some difficulty in going down. The Wellington Educational Institute will recommend the following subjects for consideration at the annual conference of the New Zealand Institute at Dunedin in January :~Providing a pension scheme for teachers; that drawing be made a class subject instead of a pass subject, as at present; that the syllabus drawn up by the Conference at Nelson in 1888 be again brought specially under the notice of the Education Department; and that the sewing syllabus* be revised.
INVERCARGILL, October 7.
Bishop Moran and party of priests reached Invercargill this morning. The bishop inspected the Catholic schools, and addresses the congregation this evening.
