The ordinary meeting of the Union street School Committee last evening was attended by Messrs J. L. Gillies (chairman), Selby, Swan, M'Laren, and Duthie (secretary). The head-master reported that there was a slight increase in the attendance, the return for the month being:—On the roll—Boys, 374; girls, 345; total, 719. Average attendance—Boys, 324 ; girls, 293; total, 617. A fortnight’s leave of absence was granted to Mr L. A, Line to enable him to prepare for University examinations. The monthly meeting of the Macandrew road School Committee was last evening attended by Messrs Hogg, Carpenter, Hallam, Logic, Fisher, and Dodds. The head-master reported that the number of pupils on the roll for the month of September was 653, with an average attendance of 552. The Committee having decided to award certificates instead of prizes this year, the secretary was instructed to call a special meeting to select a design so soon as the certificates were received.
