MEETINGS OF CREDITORS.

AUCKLAND, September 19. j The adjourned meeting of creditors of ' Adam Laybourne, merchant, was held today. The Official Assignee read the sworn . statement of fl. Cuthbertson, bookkeeper to I debtor, who had been examined in some : detail as to the state of the books. He said that one of the entries had been made by him without any reason except that of ; balancing the account, and because Mr ' Lewis's accountant required certain entries ito be made. Referring to another item, | LI ,739 5s 9d, ho knew that this entry Bhould i have been made previously, and he put down i these figures because that was the amount which should have been credited. He did not ascertain the amount, and it was an estimate upon the knowledge that the account was square. There were two other items, L 1,058 7s 6d and L 720 0s Sd, making a total of L 3.512 13s lid. He knew Lewis's account ought to be debited with this amount, and he entered it accordingly, having nothing to guide him but the know- \ ledge that the account was square. It was resolved that an exhaustive investigation should be made into the state of the books from January, 1888. CHRISTCHURCH, September 19.

A meeting of the creditors of Donnolly, skating rink proprietor, was held to-day to consider an application for discharge. Seven attended, and two proxies were handed in. One of these represented Piper, Donnolly's late partner, for L 832, to which objection was raised on the ground that the partnership had closed before the contract to build the Palace Rink was entered into. The Assignee took note of the objection. A motion granting the application was carried by six, representing L 854 15s Id, including Piper's, to three, representing L 430 16s 6d. The Assignee said there would be no dividend.
