WELLINGTON, Skmbmbeb «0. . Parliament has been prorogued by proclamation in the 'Gaaette' to December 10. The Hinemoa leaves for the Chatham Islands to-night, taking four or five members of the permanent foroe, who will aot aa extra polioe, and enforce the collection of the dog tax. The Harbor Board hare had a valuation made of their properties, showing a total of L 36,581, which is considerably under that of the city vainer. This does not include the wharves.
The Provincial Hotel, at the Upper flutt, was burnt down at 8 a.m., owing to a defective chimney. It was insured in the London and Lancashire Office for L 750 and in the Colonial for L3OO. The stock and furniture were insured in the New Zealand for LSOO and in the Union for LI 00. Mr Richards, the lessee, estimates his loss at LBOO above the latter amounts. The inmates had a narrow escape. Several other buildings were slightly damaged.
