The monthly meeting of the Otago School Commissioners was held yesterday, and attended by Messrs J. P. Maitland (chairman), J. Walker Bain, and T. Denniston.
A letter was received from Mr Edmund Smith, factor of the Otago Presbyterian Church Board, asking the Commissioners to exchange section 2, block 4, town of Lumsden, for section 3 of the same block.—The Commissioners had no power to exchange without special legislation, but had no objection to sell if the Governor’s approval could be obtained in the matter.
Mr J. L. M‘Donald, the Commissioners’ agent at Invercargill, forwarded his monthly report on the following and other matters :
Recommending that the occupancy of section 8, block 14, Dipton, be terminated, and that the section be offered at the first sale at the upset of 3a fid per acre, or LI 10s per annum.—Approved. Forwarding an application from W. Tuffery, lessee of section 48, block 3, New River Hundred, for a reduction of rent.— It was decided to decline to accede to the request, as the run had only lately been taken up. Forwarding a letter from G. Wilson, lessee of section 55, block 1, Waikaia, for a reduction of rent,—Consideration postponed. Reporting that he had arranged to take a strip of land on the west side of section 7, block 9, Waikaia, for mining purposes.— Approved. Forwarding an application from James Attiwell to lease portion of section 81, block I, Wendon.—lt was decided to inform the applicant that the run being already leased to James Hickey, the Commissioners could not accede to the request. Forwarding a letter from G. Sutherland, who asked to be allowed to surrender the lease of section 61, block 1, Waikaia.— Surrender accepted. Forwarding an application from John Smith, lessee of section 13, block 2, Aparima Hundred, to be allowed an extra crop from part of his leasehold, and recommended that the application be granted.— Granted.
Forwarding an application from J. Irvine, lessee of section 7, block 4, Mabel Hundred, for a reduction of rent.—The Commissioners could not see their way to grant the request. It was resolved to grant the application of W, C. Galloway to lease section 37, block 9, Waikaia, from year to year at a rental of Is 6d per acre. The question of affording accommodation for tourists to Lake Te Anau was referred to Messrs Bain and DeUnieton,
