The mile swimming championship of England was won, on July 20, by H. Bowden, of the Dolphin and Polytechnic Swimming Club. He did the mite in 31min 0 4-Ssec, and defeated the previous holder of the championship, J. F. Standring, easily. . . It is proposed to discard rivets in the manufacture of boilers and weld the joints by rfflfcrtribity.
