The certificate of Captain Lessing of the steamer Centennial has been suspended for twelve months. A remarkable article appears in the (Centennial Magazine ’ by Mr R. B. Wise giving an insight into the interference of the Roman Catholic hierarchy and priesthood with ordinal y affairs having no connection with religion. He publishes a circular issued by the Catholic Synod to priests, forbidding followers joining the Foresters, Oddfellows, Druids, Good Templars, Rechabites, or kindred societies on pain of deprivation of the rites of the church at their funerals. The circular approves of certain insurance companies.
