From the evidence of Mr George Couch it appeared that defendant laid him Ll2 to L 6 that a horse named Lord Prix would not win tho Winter Handicap, He handed defendant L 6, and the horse afterwards won the race, He then went in search of defendant for the purpose of drawing the wager, but he had disappeared, and he saw nothing of him until he appeared under a warrant charged with fraudulently appropriating the money. The Magistrate spoke in condemnatory terms of the dishonest practice, and said he was determined to make an example of defendant,
