A fire occurred early yesterday in a cottage adjoining the police station on the Ferry road, Christchurch, owned and occupied by R. J. Cooke, carrier. The cottage was destroyed, and very little furniture saved, as the fire had a good hold before the family were awakened. The insurances are: Union, house Ll5O, furniture LIOO. Cooke is a considerable loser.
