THE "BOARDING OUT" SYSTEM.
ANOTHER INHUMAN “PARENT.” GISBORNE, August 21. This morning a woman named Harriot Mary Ann Hearn was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for ill-treating a boy named Leslie Hearn, aged seven years. The evidence showed continual ill-treat-ment, and that on one occasion a stout riding whip was broken over the boy, who received an ugly cut on the forehead. The boy had been adopted by the accused. His parents belonged to New Plymouth, and both are now dead.
