By Electric Telegraph.—Gopjbioht.] [Per Press Association.] FEDERAL DEFENCE. _ HOBART, August 22. The Premier of Tasmania concurs in the proposal that Thursday Island should be garrisoned with Imperial troops at the charge of all the colonies, but he regards the defences of King George's Sound as of little importance compared with that of Hobart, which lies nearest to Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, and New Zealand. He considers that the entire question should be referred to the Federal Council.
