NATIVE FOOTBALL TEAM,

TO THE EDITOP. Sir,— While not in any way wishing to excuse or defend the “shady business” in which some members of the Native team are said to have been engaged in Brisbane, I certainly think that both the Otago and Southland Unions have made a mistake in taking any notice* whatever of mere newspaper reports. I think it would have been quite time enough to have taken action when an official intimation of the disqualification having taken place was received from the Queensland Union. No athletic or jockey club would think for an instant of disqualifying on a newspaper report, and I think if the union at Sydney did not consider the matter worth reporting to our New Zealand Unions, we should have taken no action, —lam, etc., Football.
