Tiie Union street School Committee met last night; present Messrs J, L. Gillies (chairman), Dulhie (secretary), Jackson, Swan, Selby, and Keenan. The head-master reported that the numbers on the roll for the month of July were as follows : —Boys, 3CS; girls, 331; total, 099. The average attendance had been : Boys, 320 ; girls, 257 ; total, COT. Accounts amounting to LUB were passed for payment. This sum included LlOl on account of the new shed. It was agreed that the chairman and secretary should take steps with a view to raising additional funds for the completion of the shed.
The fortnightly meeting of the Mornington School Committee, held last evening, was attended by Messrs Frapwell (chairman), Austing, Nicol, Harvey, Wilson, and Loan. Mr Cohen, clerk of tho Schools Conference, wrote stating that a levy of 5s had been made in connection with the Conference. It was decided that tho money be paid out of the general fund, if permissible, and if not out of the special fund. It was decided to grant the use of the schoolroom to the Sunday school Union on Monday evening. The head master reported that the average attendance for the past month was 496, the total number of scholars on the roll being 577. The head-master said that he had received intimation from fifty-five of the boys that their parents were willing that they should get uniform caps. As it was a matter for the parents no decided expression of opinion was given. It was decided that the dinner hour should be extended fifteen minutes* to enable those living at a distance a better opportunity of going home.
