HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the High School Board of Governois was held this day ; present—Rev. Dr Stuart (chairman), Or Shand, and the Rev. A. R. Fitchett. A telegram was received from Dr Brown, apologising for non-attendance. Mr R. Hay, engineer for the Taieri County Council, asked the Board to set aside section 5, Strath Taieri (a village settlement), for a gravel reserve, and vest the same in the county at a nominal price,— Resolved to put up the section in the settlement for sale early next year; the county meanwhile to be allowed to take gravel from section 5.

Accounts amounting to L 675 18s were passed for payment. A report was received from Mr D. Reid on the Strath Taieri runs.—Consideration adjourned. A letter was received from Dr Belcher reporting that the Boys’ High School was reopened on the 23rd ult,, and that the work in connection with the grounds had been completed. He also forwarded examination papers set at the midwinter examinations, with a full set of reports on the same,—Resolved that the Rector of the school bo asked to explain the arrangements made for carrying on the education of pupils who joined the school after passing the Fifth or Sixth Standards in the primary schools (1) when the pupils desired to learn Latin, and (2) when they did not desire to do so ; in the latter case what subjects are substituted for Latin.
