At a meeting of the Auckland Masonic Lodge last night a motion to rescind the resolution previously passed in favor of » united grand lodge was lost by a large majority A bright youth, undergoing examination for admission to one of the Government departments, found himself confronted with the question “ What is the distance from the earth to the sun!” Not having the exact number of miles with him, he wrote u> reply: “I am unable to state accurately, bat don’t believe the sun is so near as to interfere with a proper performance of my duties if I get the clerkship.”
