NELSON, August 2. At the Police Court to - day Thomas Mabin, of Auckland, was committed for trial on four charges of libel against James Sclandera, of the firm of Sclandera and Co. Accused was admitted to bail—himself in LIOO and two sureties of LSO iu each case.
WESTPORT, August 2. The quantity of coal exported last month was 17,398 tons, being the largest shipment on record.
TIMARU, August 2. _Mr Hogben, headmaster of the Timaru High School, stated to tho Board last night that there was a probability of pressure being put on the High School Boards by the Government to induce them to supply a measure of technical education. He had been told this in Wellington recently. He recommended the Board to amend the scale of fees, which were too liberal for “ partial pupils.”
