FOOTBALL.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—On reading tho names chosen for the trial matches to be played on Saturday next I was greatly surprised at seeing one of the best centre three quarters in Duntdin left out —viz., J. Porteous (Union). He has scored more goals and tries this season than any contra threequarter in Dunedin. He is to be relied on at potting, is a very fatt runner, and a good tackier. A* this is the firot season he bas played in a senior club, I have no hesitation in eayii g that next season will see him an interprovincial player. Hoping the O.R.F.U. will give tbia player a show—l am, etc., FAIRrLAY. Dunedin, July 23.
