W. Garrett, a commission agent, formerly of Wanganui, was charged at the Police Court today with obtaining money by false pretences". He was remanded till Thursday, and admitted to bail in two sureties of LSO each.

The cable repairiog steamer Slierard Osborne is working westward from Cape Farewell in search of the fault in the cable. It is understood that she will cut the cable to-day ; therefore a delay has occurred in the receipt of cablegrams.
