Brokers : Walter Hislop, Perpetual Trustees Company, Dunedin. Leslie A. Norman, Naseby and Nenthorn. The Eureka Quartz Mining Company of Nenthorn, Limited, is being formed with the object of working two licensed holdings of 30 acres each, situate at Nenthorn, Central Otago, which goldfield haß been aptly described by mining experts of considerable experience as "The Thames of the South Island of New Zealand." In addition to the licensed holdings referred to, both of which have been transferred in the corporate name of the Company, there is a grant of a Water Race and Right for five heads of Water, as well as for a Reservoir covering five acres of ground. It is the intention of the Board of Director?, on commencing operation?, to do the following things—viz. (1) To erect a 10-stamp battery and 15-horse power engine and boiler in the immediate vicinity of the reefs, as well as suitable appliances for treating the auriferous ore; and (2) to provide for the energetic development of the claims on a thoroughly systematic scale by sinking a main shaft in a central position, with the necessary hoisting and pumping gear. Making their calculations on a liberal basis, the directors estimate that an expenditure of not more than L 2.500 will be involved in the erection of machinery and the execution of all necessary works for placing the mine in a position to pay dividends. The claims held by the Company have been extensively prospected, and so far two goldbearing lod' s have been discovered, both of which can be tracod for fully one mile and ahalf, traversing the following claims :—Premier, Eureka, Glencairne, Crystal Cave, and Gladstone, Within tho last few days an additional GO acres have been applied for by a company bearing the appellation of "The Eureka Extended Company," the propiietors of which havo discovered the continuation of the reefs, which at that point are over 2ft in width, and carrying good payable gold. _ In view of the information availab'e to the public in regard to tho valuable discoveries already made at Nenthorn, the Directors consider it unnecessary to make any statements in reference to the general character of the field, except to remark that it has been practically proved, beyond the question of a doubt, that the lodes are true in character, figuring the foliated schist almost at right angles with the strata, the rock being splendidly adapted to mining operations, and the pay-ore fairly easy of production. The particular lodeß in tho Company s claims have, as already stated, been extensively prospected, payable gold having been found wherever excavations have been made. Their general width is quite 2ift, and in one place a shaft has been sunk to a depth of 20ft, from which point a trial crushing of a ton of stone was taken and reduced at the battery of Kincaid and M'Queen, Dunedin, tho yield being at the rate of TEN OTTNCES OF RETORTED GOLD PER TON OF ORE ! The cake of gold obtained from the crushing i« now on exhibition at the establishment of Messrs G. and T. Young, jewellers, Princes street, Dunedin. The Directors would draw attention to the fact that so far the richest discovery made on the goldfii Id is comprehended in the properties now offered to the public; and, taking all the circumstances of the case into consideration, they have no hesitation in recommending them as a perfectly legitimate outlet for the investment of capital. The o;dy contraot entered into is one between the Company of the one part and Walter Hislop of the other part, in regard to the floating of the Company, the original of which may be inspected at the offices of the solicitors of the Company. The Memorandum and Articles of Association may also be inspected at the same place.
