BOARD OF GOVERNORS.
The meeting of the High School Board of Governors yesterday was a ttended by Professor Shand, Hon, W. 11. Reynolds, Dr Brown, and the Rev. A. R. Fitchett, The Otago Education .Board intimated that they desired the rector of the High School to furnish information respecting scholarship-holders.
A letter was received from the factor of the Presbyterian Church Board, stating that they were prepared to accept surrender of the rectory lease, and to give the High School Board a new lease of about three acres of land for fourteen years.—lt was resolved that Professor Shand, Dr Brown, and the Rev. A. R. Fitchett wait on Mr E. Smith and explain that since the Board were willing to reduce the area held to about lif acres the rent should not be raised, and that the Board expects a lease of the ground retained for twenty-one years. Consideration of a report from Mr Donald Reid n Strath Taieri runs, the leases of which expire March 11, 1890, was deferred until next meeting.
The Commissioner of Crown Lands forwarded a resolution of the Land Board respecting the perpetual leaseholds of Andrew Harvie, James Harrison, and J. Nolan ; also a report by Ranger Hugban on the last-named lessee’s section.—lt was decided to recommend the reduction of Harrison’s rent from 4s fid to 3s 9d ; Harvie’s, from 5s Id to 4s Id; while consideration of Nolan’s rent was held over, the sections to be put up again in a few months at 2s, failing which to apply for the right of selling as freehold. Mr R. B. Martin appeared on behalf of the following perpetual lessees who applied for reduction of rentals :—James Harrison, rections 1a and 2, block 5, Strath Taieri; Thomas Pugh, sections 17, 20, 23, and 24, do ; Andrew Harvie, section 7, do; John Nolan, section 13, do; J, Giddings, section 34, do; and N. M'Fadyen, section 38, block 9, Strath Taieri,—lt was decided to recommend the Land Board to reduce the rents of lessees,
