Stamford and Yespasia have been scratched for the Hawkesbury Grand Handicap. The Sydney police authorities are of opinion that special steps are required to be taken to suppress the inflow of French recidivistes from New Caledonia to Australia. They state that the French authorities succeed in preventing escape by French vessels, but there ore large numbers who manage to get away from the islands by means of English and colonial trading vessels.
