’ The Baths and Sanitary Committee report that, having heard Dr Gordon Macdonald on the subjects of dog tax, hydatids, water filtration, and public abattoirs, and while thanking him for his suggestions, have resolved as follow: —(1) Your Committee recommend continued diligence in the collection of the dog tax. (2) The filtration of the City waterhaving been frequently before tho WaterSupply Committee they find it impracticable to carry tho same out. (3) Regarding public abattoirs, the Committee, after due consideration, find insuperable difficulties in effeotually carrying out the same, and regret their inability to do so at present. The Committee also intimate that the Fire Brigade’s requisition for repairs has been granted. The Works Committee, in addition to referring to a few unimportant matters, state in their report that the City Surveyor has been insti noted to cease depositing street sweepings on the vacant section. High street, and to remove and spread the heaps now deposited there. The respective applications of G, A. Tapper, the Farmers’ Agency Company, William|Cummeck,(G. Greaves, M. Sinclair, and A, and T. Burt have been granted. The Gas Committee recommend that they be empowered to order 100 ft of Auokland-made retorts from the Auckland Gas Company, in addition to those already ordered, at a cost of 14s per foot; that tho salary of Mr D. Leighton, clerk in the Gas Office, be increased to L 125 per annum. The Committee further state that, with the view of inducing the citizens to become more generally consumers of coke for manufacturing and domestic purposes, they have reduced the price to 22sffid per ton.
