The Dunedin Chess and Draughts Club’s annual handicap tournament was started on the 11th inst., with thirteen entries, This tourney always creates great interest in draughts circles in Dunedin. The handicapping was entrusted to Messrs H. Howes and R. Caldow. At the Carisbrook Ground to-morrow afternoon two important football matches will be played. Tho Canterbury College team —the members of which arrive by to-night’s express—play their annual match against the University. This match will commence at 1.30, and on conclusion of play a second match will be played between teams representing St. Patrick’s (Wellington) College and Otago High School. The St. Patrick’s College team occupy the position of premier junior club of Wellington, their record for the season standing at 40 points against nil. As two good matches will be played a large attendance is anticipated. _________
