Two cases of smallpox occurred I during the voyage of a vessel from / Mauritius to Melbourne. The authorities are communicating with the Governments of New South Wales and South Australia for the purpose of taking measures to declare Mauritius an infected country. The New South Wales Legislative Assembly has passed the Payment of Members Bill.
The two immigrant girls from Queensland, who were arrested because they had left that colony before they had completed the six months' residence required by law, have been discharged on refunding the amount of their passage money. The Maori footballers beat King's College, Parramatta, by 21 points to nil. The result of the game was contrary to expectation, as the College team was considered one of the toughest the Natives had to meet, and lhe Maori team was rather weak.
