Slit,—la this morning'* paper the Drapery Importing Company's promisee are reported as having had a narrow escape from fire, caused by the hearth to the fireplace in refreshment room. Aa alterations have lately been made to tho premises in High atreet under my supervision, in justice to myself and the contractors who carried out the alterations I have to state that the fireplace and hearth have been in existence for some years past, and that they have not been interfered with during the alterations to the room, nor at any other time under me.—l am, etc., James llr.st.op, Architect.
