IMPORTANT RAILWAY ACTION.
WELLINGTON, June 12,
An important action was begun in the ■Supreme Court this morning viz,, the Manawatu Railway Company v, the Queen, The company claim that part of their contract with the Government was that any block or portion of block of land in the vicinity of the line acquired by the Crown within a period of five years from March, 1882, should be set aside as an endowment of the company, provided the value did uot exceed L 29,805; but the Government sold by auction a portion of the Horowhenua Mock, comprising 3,088 acres. The company seek to be put in the position to prosecute their complaint in the Court, and to take such proceedings as are necessary. The contention of the Crown is that the Uorowhenua block was not acquired till June 19, 1887, and was consequently not within the five year limit.
