AUCKLAND, June 11
The Tabernacle congregation accepted Thomas Spurgeon’s resignation last night with regret, and passed a resolution expressing recognition of his past services. The rainfall in the Whangarei district has been very heavy, twenty inches having fallen in seven days and nights. Owing to the continuous rain the bridge, across the Wairoa at Ruatangata has been carried away. Such a rainfall has not happened since 1873, when there were twelve days’ rain in April of that year. WELLINGTON. June 11. A proposal has been made by the Wel-lington-Mauawatu Railway Company, in conjunction with the local body, to cut a road from Shannon over the Tararua Ranges, to pierce the Wairarapa district near Ekatabuna. When the road is constructed it will be shorter to bring cattle by it than by rail. FEILDING, June 11, The Feilding Masonic Lodge have decided to join the Grand Lodge.
