The Petty-officera of the Dunedin Naval Artillery were examined last evening by Lieutenant Lodder (submarine mining instructor) in the preliminaries of submarine mining—viz., knotting and splicing, jointing and crowning cable, etc. Lieutenant Lodderexpressednimself as being thoroughly satisfied with the manner in which the men acquitted themselves, and trusted that they would endeavor to keep themselves efficient in all the branches of their drill.
