The resignation of the Rev. H. E. Tuokey as Justice of the Peace has been accepted. The tender of Ross and Glendining for uniforms for the Post and Telegraph Department has been accepted at the following" prices:—Tunics, 295; walking trousers, 16s 6d ; riding do,, 23s 6d ; overcoats with capes (detachable), 39s 6d. The estimated population of New Zealand on March 31, 1889, was (inclusive of Maoris)— Males, 349,232 ; females, 302,893 ; total, 052,125, being an increase over the same date last year of 2,776.
