The greatest depth of the ocean, of which soundings have been taken, is oil the coast of Japan. The water at that] point is five miles deep, and on the bottom, even at that enormous depth, traces of animal life have been found. The Hon. Spencer Hanbury, heir of Lord Bateman, filed his schedule last month. He lost L 20,000 in gambling, and shows assets L3OO and liabilities L 63,860.
