LONDON, May 23, The following is the result of the race run yesterday for the

NEWMARKET STAKES, of 8,880 sovs (7,500 sovs by subscription of SO sovs each, and 1,380 sovs added money); for three-year-olds. Colts, 9jt; fillies. Sit9lb. Donovan has now won the large sum of L 84,867 in stakes alone, of which amount he secured L 16.487 as a two-year-old and L 18,380 this season. Last year he started his career at Lincoln by winning the Brocklesby Stakes, of 1,034 sovs, from ten others. At Leicester he secured the Portland Stakes, of 6,000 sovs, iu the large field of twenty-five starters. At Manchester he went down before Chitabob in the Whitsuntide Plate, of 4,400 sovs; but as he was carrying 9st 101b to the winner’s Bst 111b there was no disgrace attaching to defeat. Nine others finished behind the pair. At Ascot Donovan beat seven others in the New Stakes, of 1,169 sovs; and at Bibury he secured the Foal Stakes, of 475 sovs. At Stockbridge the Hurstbourne Stakes, of 1,250 sovs, fell to him, while at Newmarket July he beat Gold in the July Stakes, of 1,120 sovs. He easily defeated Fleur-de-Lys and Pantomime in the Ham Stakes, of 700 sovs, at Goodwood, but could only get home third, behind El Dorado and Gold, in the Prince of Wales Stakes, of 2,600 sovs, at the same gathering. At Newmarket First October meeting he carried off the Buckenbam Stake?, of 900 sovs, and the Hopeful Stakes, of 537 sovs ; while at the Second October gathering he landed the Middle Park Plate, of 2,105 sovs, beating thirteen others. His two-year-old career was wound up in brilliant style by a win in the Dewhurst Plate, of 1,197 sovs, in which he was giving weight to all his four opponents. This year he has won the Prince of Wales Stakes, of 12,000 sovs, at Leicester, and ran second to Enthusiast in the Two Thousand. Donovan is engaged in the Derby, St. Leger, Sandown Park Eclipse Stakes (of 11,100 sovs), the Lancaster Plate (of 12,000 sovs), and other valuable stakes.

The Turcophone did not race last season. He is engaged in the Derby, Epsom Grand Prize, Eclipse Stakes (of 11,100 sovs), St. Lcger, Lancashire Plate (of 12,000 sovs), and other stakes. Laureate last year ran unplaced in the Newmarket Breeders’ Plate, of 475 sovs ; won the Hamilton Plate, of 102 sovs, at Yarmouth ; won the Sandown Park Nursery Handicap, of 489 sovs; won a Nursery Handicap, of 185 sovs, at Newmarket; won the Rous Memorial Stakes, of 565 sovs, at Newmarket; and ran second to Theophilus in the Orleans Nursery Handicap, at Sandowj Park. He is engaged in the Derby, Epsom Grand Prize, Grand Prix de Paris, and other good stakes, but not in the St. Leger.
