S 1 PEIGHT AND CO.’S PRIZE BEER. 0. R. West, Esq., 135 Easton road, London. Dear Sir,— Being intimate with oi o of the principal supervisors of excise here I rent him a Few dozen of Messrs Speight and Co.’s Dunedin Beer with the object of getting the opinion of the Excise Chemist on it; and lam glad to say tie has pronounced it one of the finest Boers he sver analysed, it having the high specific gravity sf 10.80deg, the greatest amount of spirit and the least quantity of acid he ever came across. When I tell yon that every shipment of Beer joing out of the Clyde must he sampled by the excise officers and then analysed by their jhemists, I consider this opinion is better than anything else I could say on It, At present the Beer is too flat to send to anyone not an expeit in the trade; but as soon as it comes into conlition I will have it distributed. Yours very truly, (Signed) ROBP, MOORE, AND CO. (Per H. S. Moore). A Correspondent writes Please send mo some more of that Speight’s Ale you are bottling. I am very particular about the beer I have, and hitherto have had a down on “Colonial,” preferring to pay the higher price for the best brands of English Bottled Ale. I must confess, however, that what you have sent mo pleases me in every respect as well as any I have ever used. Perhaps the great difference in price between 10s and 14s a dozen has affected my judgment, but I do not think so. At any rate, so long as yon maintain the quality at the same standard you should be able to supplant the imported article. To John Barron, 29 Rattray street. MELBOURNE EXHIBITION. THE following Cable was received la New Zealand this day (Nov, 28th, 1888), —See daily press In Class 72, fermented and distilled drinks, the following awards were made: Light Sparkling Ale—M. JOEL, Dunedin; J. Edmonds, Wellington. Malt Bitter Ale—M. JOEL. Bottled Stout-M. JOEL Strong Ales—M, JOEL. No other New Zealand Brewers received awards. It will ho seen from the above that the preeminent success which has for upwards of a quarter of a century consistently attended the Ales and Stout manufactured by the Red Uon Brewery, Dunedin, has again received striking and complete confirmation at the hands of the judges of the great Melbourne Centennial Exhibition.
