The New South Wales Government have taken the opinion of counsel with regard to the alleged misappropriation of funds of the Casual Labor Board by M. John Davies, the chairman, and find by that reason of his office he is not amenable to the law under which a prosecution could be sustained.
The Sydney agents of the Orient Steamship Company and the Union Bank authorities are of opinion that the 5,000 sovereigns lost from the Iberia were abstracted from the shipment of 50,000 sovereigns, and that the robbery was committed before the Iberia left Australian waters.
