Financiers consider that the pledge given by New South Wales not to borrow this year is unwise. They think that the month of June would be very opportune for floating a loan.

THE ACHEENESE WAR.
THE HAGUE, May 15\ Advice has been received here that the Dutch forces, in an encounter with the Natives of Acheen, lost thirty in killed and wounded. The Acheenese attacked the garrison of Edi. The encounter was sharp at the first, bnt the garrison eventually defeated the enemy, of whom 160 were killed. A LIBERAL STEP. ... , VIENNA, May 15. The Government have decided to exempt new workmen's dwellings from taxation for a period of twenty-five years. DISESTABLISHMENT REJECTED. LONDON, May 15. LONDON, May 15. An objection has been lodged against the stake won yesterday being awarded to Ringmaster, on the ground that the jockey Turner, who rode him, is not a bona fide apprentice. MONETARY AND COMMERCIAL. LONDON, May 15. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, 4£ per cents., 1124; Dalgety and Co.'s, 4J, 112. The quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,668 quarters, and for the Continent 348,000 quarters. The American visible supply is 28,875,000 bushels.
English wheat is firmer, but Continental is unchanged, while American is steady. New Zealand mutton, 4Jd per lb. Leather, to BJd per lb.
