HALF-HOLIDAY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib,—l am glad to see that several correspondents have been proposing the institution of a half-holiday; but by the manner that “Grocer ” and “Counter-jumper ” put it, it could not be called “ the tradesmen’s half-holiday,” ns it should be—they put it exclusively for the benefit of grocers. Would it not considerably enhance their cause to call forth the co-operation of chemists, drapers, ironmongers, etc. ? _By uniting in one body, the greatly desired benefit would be likely to be forthcoming much sooner, A general meeting of the tradesmen and their employes being convened would test the feeling towards the motion and give it greater publicity. If necessary, a petition might be signed afterwards. Were it brought about soon (the summer is approaching), it could not but be hailed with gladuess both by master and man. Trusting the matter will not be allowed to drop—lam, etc,, Chemist, Dunedin, October 22.
