WANTED—A THIRD PARTY.

TO TIIK KPITOIt, Sin,—Now that Mr Houchins has sot the Prohibition ball rolling, I hope that neither he nor the true friends of temperance will allow it to stop until thero is formed in New Zealand a Third or National Prohibition Party. There arc many temperance people in this colony who arc not satisfied with our present licensing system, and who arc equally dissatisfied with the work of existing temperance organisations. Prom Home papers to hand, I notice that many temperance people, having given up hope of seeing the liquor problem satisfactorily solved by tho various temperance organisations of the United Kingdom, have formed a National Prohibition Party, which, from its present success, promises to become tho power which will ultimately sweep away Britain's greatest curse—her national crime —the drink traflic.

We want a similar organisation here, and the time for its formation is fast ripening. Who is there among us willing to initiate this movement ? I believe there arc sincere temperance workers in this colony who are prepared to sink nil sectarian jealousies and rally round any man who will unfurl the banner of Prohibition pure and simple, as has been done at Home and in America. When our temperance leaders and agitators become as sincere in their work as are their brethren in America—when our women become as desperately in earnest about this matter as their sisters in the States—then may the heart of our fair colony leap with joy at the prospect of a speedy redemption from that which is crushing and destroying
