Nrlson.— Hawea arrived noon from Plcton. ARRIVAL OF MB AORANGI. Tho H.M.s.s. Aorangl, from Plymouth viATencrlffo and Cape Town, wits reported from Tataroa Heads at 3.40 pm. yesterday, Her advent was rather unexpected, as sho was five days in advance of contract time, thus keeping up her reputation os a fast boat. At tho time of her being reported the Plucky was engaged in the Upper Harbor, and it being flood tide Captain M’Calium, dipily harbor-mastpr, nt oi.ee communicated with the head office, and the P ucky was despatched outside (ho Heads to tender the mail steamer; but on account of the extremely thick weather It was impossible to see far down the harbor, so that we hardly expected that an attimpt would bo made to bring her into the harbor It was not until the big steamer was off Deborah Bay that anyone on shore knew of her ha-lug crossed the bar, which she did nt 0.20 pm., her draft being 2Ht 4in aft and 10ft Sin forward. She was berthed at tho George street pier at 720 p.m.; was at once cleared by the Ileaßh Olfieor, and boarded by Mr Macdonncll (Surveyor of Customs), Messrs Downt sand Web-tor (of the Postal Department), Captain Boyd (the Company’s manager), Messn Burns, Asher, and Mill when tho mails—which consisted of 289 bags from tho United Kingdom and six bags from Capo Town—were immediately transferred into the railway trucks and forwarded to Dunodin. Mr Palmer states that this is her third successive passi e to Pott Chaim rs with an average of 89 days 21 hours, including all stoppages and the dr livery of her malls within these limes. We do not know how Mr Palmer makes up his average, as on looking over the rf cords of her passages we find that on her last visit on October 9 tho time occupied was 40 days 1 hour 65 rainußH, whilst tho previous trip on Juno 21 the lime was 43 days 3 hours and 2 minutes.
