MUNICIPAL.

Port Chalmers. —This Council’s meeting last night was attended by the Mayor (Mr E. G. Allen), Crs Watson, Innes, De Mans, Gardner, Perry, Cable, Murray, and Perry. —The Reserves Committee recommended -that the application of Mr Hudson to cancel the lease of section 373 be granted, subject to Mr Hudson paying the rent to November 30, 1885.—The Works Committee reported that Mr C. Stevenson had completed his contract in Magnetic street in.a most satisfactory manner, and that the various works in the different wards are being pushed forward with all possible despatch. They recommended that the portion of Island terrace which has been partly Ailed up by Mr Innes should be finished at once.—The Fire Brigade Committee recommended that Lieutenant Thomson receive his appointment as fire inspector. The reports were adopted. The Clerk announced that during the past twelve months the meetings had. been attended by the Mayor and councillors as follows:—Mayor, 37; Cr Watson, 39; Cr Innes, 36; Cr Gardner, 23; Cr Murray, 38; Cr Perry, 32; Cr De Mans, 37; Cr Cable, 25; Cr Read, 40.—The Mayor’s motion “That the resolution declining to allow the town clock bell to be used' for Church purposes be rescinded ” was lost. Cr Cable moved “That Mr Hinchcliff he voted L 5 5s for services rendered as clerk to the Licensing Committee, providing the Council has power to apply funds for that purpose.” Carried.—The Mayor explained the action of the Council in reference to the tendering for the kerbing and channelling laid down in Grey street, a misstatement concerning it having lately appeared in one of the daily papers.—lt was resolved that the use of the hall be granted to the Vigilance Committee to hold their meetings, and that the clerk act as secretary.
