The starter was very unhappy in his efforts to get the field away, but after several fruitless attempts he despatched the lot on pretty level terms. Envy filly went to the front as on the previous day, and led by two lengths past the stand, but the lest were determined not to let her get away this time, and before 300 yds were covered Hinemoa was at her quarters, with Tasman, Chancellor, and Libeller close up, and the rest at their heels, except Emir Bev, who again tailed off in an unaccountable manner. Going round to the far side of the courset these positions were not materially changed, but at the mile Hinemoa commenced to fall back, her place being taken by Tasman, who shortly coUared the Envy filly, and the pair raced away three lengths : clear of anything. Libeller still lay in a good position, and Sir Modred coming out and joining him, and the pair closed on the two leaders as they rounded the last turn, and thence there was a fine struggle home. The Envy filly was the first to cave in, and the lead was then temporarily taken by Tasman, but the whip was soon on him, and theu the issue lay between Libeller and Sir Modred, who Jay in the centre of the course. The top weight for a time looked as good as his opponent, but before the rails were reached Rudings was hard on him, while Ivemy was scarcely moving on Libeller, who in the end drew ahead and won, with not much in hand, by a length. Sir Modred tired in the last stride or two, and Tasman, ridden out, robbed him of second money by a short head on the post. Lady Emma was a good fourth, the Envy filly fifth, the rest straggling home. Time, 2min Of L 567 in the tetalisator L2l was on Libeller, who was entirely unsupported in the ring. Betting: 2to 1 against Clarence and Trovatore: 4to 1 Mokarakara and Quamby. Mokarakara and Quamby took the lead early in the race, with Trovatore third} the rest altogether. At the third jump Trovatore came down, and although Clifford quickly remounted him he was too much shaken to persevere with the hone. Albion ran very unkindly, and could not be induced to face the hurdles, bo that he was soon pulled up. A fine race, however, tc~k place between the four others, of whom Quamby and Mokarakara alternately led, but with Clarence and Milo close by them. Entering the straight Clarence made his effort, but could never get quite on terms with Mokarakara, who won a grand race by a clear half length. Milo was third; Quamby the last of those that came in.
