END OF 14TH ARMY
LONDON, November 30 The British 14th Army which, under General William Slim, achieved outstanding success in Burma, and is now garrisoning Malaya, will be formally disbanded on December 1
and many others aIJ over the country but for whose efforts there would never have been 10 years of Labour Government.
Mr. Fraser paid tribute to the rank and file supporters of the Labour Party, and said he desired also to thank the whole nation for the support it had given during the war period. Even in the midst of war Labour had succeeded in maintaining and even advancing the social and economic position of the people, and once more they were extending that programme so that the Atlantic Charter and the pledge that had been given at San Francisco of full employment would De carried on. They wanted to ensure, by again returning Labour to power for another 10 years. that poverty, misery, and degradation would never invade their shores and afflict the people any more.
On the call of Mr. Collins, three cheers were given Tor Mr. Fraser and the Labour movement.
The proceedings opened by the Waterside Band playing the National Anthem, and concluded with "God Defend New Zealand."
