BONOMI TO RESIGN
ITALIAN PRIME MINISTER
Rec. 11 a.m
LONDON, June 8,
The long drawn-out political discussion, in Italy took a new turn today, when the Prime Minister, Signor Bonomi, offered to resign. He told his Ministry that the delay in reaching a settlement was bringing the work of Cabinet to a standstill, and. h" could no longer leave Cabinet matters in abeyance.
Later messages say the Prime Minister has not yet handed his resignation to the Lieutenant of the Realm, Prince Umberto. He has agreed to stay in office a little longer until an agreement is reached about a new Government."
A correspondent says it is possible that Prince Umberto may. ask Signor Bohomi, as a non-party man, to serve again as Prime Minister. The leading candidates for the Premiership are Signor Pietro Nenni, Socialist Leader, and Signor de GasDeri, head of the Christian Democrats. The Communists support Signor Nenni. The Communist leader, Signor Togliatti, refuses to serve under any other Premier.
