Dietmar, accomDanied by his 16----year-old son and carrying a Red Cross flag, crossed the Elbe "and said he wanted to intercede on behelf of civilians. He admitted that he was afraid of falling into Russian hands, and when given a chance to surrender he did so.

"I will be safer with you," Dietmar told his captors.

He said that Hitler is still in absolute personal control of the entire German army.

"It is impossible to move even a machine-gun company without his permission," he said. "Hitler will be killed or commit .suicide. Then either Brauchitsch, Guderian, or yon Rundstedt will take control ahd make peace immediately on almost any terms." MYTH OF BAVARIAN REDOUBT.

The British United Press correspond ent with the 9th Army says that Dietmar surrendered to the Americans on the afternoon of April 25 in the Magdeburg sector-. He told his captors that Hitler is in Berlin and refuses to leave.

He added that the much-advertised "Bavarian Redoubt" is mostly a myth. "When Berlin falls the war will be over," he said.
