Rec. noon. NEW YORK, April 27. American amphibious forces have landed on Negros Island in the second assault since March 29, says the Associated Press correspondent iri Manila. Troops landed at Dumaguette, on the southern tip of the island.

The Japanese apparently were prepared for such an eventuality and systematically began destroying the city which, although heavily damaged early in the war, had been extensively rebuilt.
